Honor Among Thieves
Seventeen year old Alice is the leader of a collection of thieves who call themselves the Outlaws. Lewis is a rising star of the police force whose career is threatened by the petty Chief of Police. He is given one chance to prove himself; he must capture the elusive leader of the Outlaws. Initially naive and idealistic, Lewis' encounters with Alice show him that there are areas of gray between right and wrong. Soon however, they have bigger problems than each other as the powerful organization that calls itself the Black Arm Gang threatens to engulf both the capitol city and the entire country. By coincidence or by fate, only Alice and Lewis have the ability to take down the Black Arm Gang. The only problem is that they have to work together in order to do it.
After the technology for genetic modification becomes available, conflicts break out throughout the world as different groups dispute the extent to which it should be used. In the United States, a set of the laws called the Covenant limits permanent genetic modification to the embryonic stage and the actual technology to a specially created Ministry. Generations after these laws are put in place, the conglomerate intelligence agency finally round up the last of the rebels performing illegal modifications. Unfortunately for Gwen Ryu, her older brother is arrested for the illegal modifications their parents gave him without his knowledge years earlier. Two years later, she has fallen in with a small group of rebels who show their opposition to the government and the Covenant mainly through small meaningless acts. Nevertheless, she sticks with them for she sees them as her only chance at breaking her brother out. In the meantime, a freak accident many years ago comes to roost and upends the lives of Kiran and Alexander, two boys from very different lives. This brings them into collision with Gwen in a series of events that will reveal certain secrets about her own birth that have far reaching implications.
