Stand alone books
Demi-god and incorrigible troublemaker Sun Zeha is four years into a lifetime sentence of being crushed by a mountain when a nun named Sana stumbles into her prison cave. The nun is unfortunate enough to be on a heaven-sent mission to fetch sacred texts from a mountain to the west. Believing Zeha to be a demon in need of reform, Sana offers her a deal. Sana will release her in exchange for her protection since she lost her original bodyguards to a hungry tiger. Zeha agrees with the intention of walking away. Freeing Zeha gives Sana control of a shock collar that can be activated with a chant and binds their lives together so her survival depends on the nun’s. Despite this rather unhappy start to their relationship and Sana’s incessant moralizing, the journey isn’t all unpleasant. For one thing, they pick up some fun travel buddies: Paoma, a young dragon without a tail who needs to prove himself worthy, Ping, a godling who is constantly drunk and wants to be let back into the heavens to rejoin her divine family, and Jin, a reformed pirate captain eager to perform good deeds. Somewhat against her will, Zeha starts to think of her companions as a family but she still comes into conflict with Sana as they continue on their journey. Zeha’s frustration with her builds until she simply wants to finish the quest so they can go their separate ways. But even that might require Zeha to confront her past, her identity and the reason she ended up under the mountain in the first place.
